The Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society honored Eduardo Figueras, chief geneticist and head of worldwide production for the Global Blue Technologies – Cameron family of companies by naming him its Ambassador for the United States and Canada.

Mr. Figueras’ 30 years in the field garnered many achievements. He is credited as co-founder of the “Blue Revolution” in shrimp aquaculture for his work to move seedstock sourcing from the wild to controlled conditions in the hatchery. During those three decades honing his genetics knowledge and skills, Mr. Figueras mentored a legion of young marine biologists around the world many of whom rose to the top ranks of hatchery management in Latin and North America as well as throughout Asia and the Middle East.

Today Mr. Figueras is continuing to bring cutting edge technology and advancements in shrimp aquaculture to the fore. His work at Global Blue Technologies aquaculture campus in Taft, Texas was sited at the last LACC/WAS gathering in Mexico as “the future of shrimp aquaculture.” His encyclopedic knowledge of shrimp genetics and willingness to counsel and help others problem-solve are responsible for the goodwill and respect held for him over the years by his colleagues in aquaculture.
